Inauguration of three new brigades to protect the Bouskoura Forest

On Friday June 16, 2023, a ceremony to inaugurate three new brigades to protect the Bouskoura Forest took place under the chairmanship of the Governor of the Province of Nouaceur, in the presence of the Regional Commander of the Royal Gendarmerie, the Regional Commander of the Auxiliary Forces, the President of the Provincial Council of Nouaceur, the President of the commune of Bouskoura and civilian and military personalities.
These three new security brigades, set up in the Bouskoura Forest over an area of some 4,000 m2, in addition to the equestrian unit already in place, will work together to offer an integrated approach to security, environmental protection and the preservation of the forest's natural resources. This experiment, the first of its kind in Morocco, aims to guarantee the security and surveillance of this vast natural area, preventing incidents and ensuring the safety and peace of mind of forest visitors.
The security system, which will be in place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, is made up of :

- The Royal Gendarmerie's equestrian unit, which patrols hard-to-reach areas on horseback.

- The canine brigade, equipped with specially trained dogs to detect suspicious activity and intervene in search and rescue operations.

- The regional environmental brigade focuses on preserving the environment, raising visitor awareness of nature conservation and combating activities harmful to the forest ecosystem.

- The Auxiliary Forces mounted squad reinforces general security and provides additional support to the other brigades.

Each of these brigades has been specially designed to meet the operational needs of each unit, while respecting the integrity of the forest landscape. They are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, including specialized vehicles, advanced communications equipment and personal protection devices tailored to the specific missions of each brigade.

The project was carried out over a 12-month period, and mobilized 18.5 million dirhams of the initial budget of 110 million dirhams for the landscaping and recreational development of the Bouskoura - Merchich forest.
